History

Built in 1907, the wonderful old stone building that is home to Gallery Classic is an English Tudor style structure that was originally a dairy barn. After extensive renovation in 1933, it was the White Lakes Golf Course clubhouse, subsequently offices and retail. The second floor of this designated historic landmark still has the original dance floor and stage where bands, including Tommy Dorsey, performed from the 1920’s – 1950’s. Topeka is a city with a colorful past, an exciting future and is the capital city of Kansas. It is home to several museums, art galleries (including our own, the Haute Shop) and beautiful examples of historic architecture. |

This view is the south entrance to Gallery Classic where visitors are greeted with a friendly hello and a cup of our signature blend of coffee. We have a history board on-site that covers the complete history of this beautifully restored building. Many older Topekans warmly remember having danced in the ballroom upstairs during the 1940’s and 50’s and happy stories are a part of the history of this very unique building. We are also the proud owners of two 1930’s vintage trophies that were won by golfers playing in a White Lakes Golf Course tournament! |

This photo shows a corner of the first room you’ll see when you enter Gallery Classic. The Belgium style of decorating is all about serenity and it starts with neutrals – Belgian grays, browns, creams and taupes. Sophisticated yet livable. |
